Dinisio Gilbert Captures TFC Gold

TFC_1-13-12

In the Main Event Frank McMullin was scheduled to face Jesse Malloy for the light heavyweight title. Unfortunately Malloy was unable to participate but it was a real fortunate situation for Team No Comment's Dinisio Gilbert. Coach Josh Bulak informed me before the fight that they just received the call Thursday to fill in as a replacement and Gilbert was excited to get the opportunity. Gilbert who normally fights at 185 pounds was giving up considerable size to the undefeated McMullin. What Gilbert lacked in size, he seemed to have an advantage with his speed and youth in this title bout.  McMullin tried to use his size to negate the speed of Gilbert but Gilbert looked strong on his feet getting the better of the standup. McMullin was able to force the action to the cage, where he tried to slow Gilbert down with knees to the body while also forcing Gilbert to deal with McMullin's weight on him as well. McMullin was able to take Gilbert down several times in the bout was unable to do significant damage, even from the mount position. When on his back Gilbert did well to avoid damage but had a nice side slam on McMullin in the second round. As the fight progressed into the fourth round Gilbert landed a flurry of punches and after separating, Gilbert landed a nice flying knee to the body of McMullin which appeared to slow McMullin down a bit. Gilbert smelled victory and moved in and landed a big shot knocking McMullin out at 2:15 in the fourth round. Dinisio "Rampage" Gilbert is your new 205 champion and the winner of the Moremma knock out of the night!

In the co-main event, David Longoria retained his flyweight title with his victory over TJ Nestor. Longoria, once again proved that he is a dangerous fighter from his back, submitting Nestor with a beautiful armbar just 1:29 into the first round. Longoria improves his record to 10-2 with the victory and told announcer Ray Flores in the post fight interview that he is looking to turn pro in the near future. Longoria was originally slated to face Team Colon's JJ Gilmer, however Gilmer suffered an injury and was unable to compete. Longoria receives the Moremma submission of the night for the slick armbar.

The main event was a great fight but our fight of the night goes to Jimmy Welter and Luke Frederick. The fighters had some nice exchanges early and Frederick applied a triangle but was unable to submit Frederick as the round expired. Frederick takes the round after having a triangle attempt for what seemed close to two minutes. In the second round, Welter let his lands go and landed multiple combinations which stunned Frederick. Welter secured a takedown and did more damage but it was Frederick who once again worked the triangle as the bell sounded. A very strong round for Welter who takes the second round. In the third welter was able to get a takedown moving to side control and controlled the round and was awarded the decision victory.

In a nice comeback win, Dan Almario absorbed a barrage of body blows in the first and appeared to be finished. Almario went on to survive the round and came back in the second round with some strikes of his own, working his ground and pound. Alamrio kept the punches coming and referee Rob Madrigal stopped the contest with just 9 seconds left in the bout. A great comeback victory for Almario which had the crowd buzzing!
