Fight Card Entertainment presented Cross the Line on Thursday night, at Joes Bar on Weed Street and all the proceeds of the event will go to the Jeff Dunbar Charity. Great raffle prizes were also given away, one awesome prize that anyone would of been thrilled to win, would be the 3-one hour training sessions with Top Notch fighter Ricardo Lamas. The experience that could be gained by those training sessions are priceless. Many area gyms donated prizes and it was great to see them to have so many prizes to give away.
I'm going to go right to the fight of the night, which was between Otis Brumfield of Combat Zone and Team No Comment's Darrell Edmonson. These two fighters put on a tremendous fight for the crowd. Both fighters had opportunities at submission attempts, landed big punches, slams and left it all in the cage. Many people may have thought that Brumfield may have an easy time in this contest but Edmonson had other plans. The first round saw Edmonson catch a Brumfield kick and turn it into a big slam. Edmonson tried to work a rear naked choke but ended up being reversed and ended up in a rear naked choke from Brumfield as the round ended.
The second round was just as high paced as the first with Edmonson catching Brumfield with a nice right sending Brumfield off balance toward the cage. Sensing that Brumfield may have been hurt, Edmonson propelled himself halfway across the cage with a flying knee that just missed its mark. Brumfield recovered and was able to take Edmonson down working to his back trying a rear naked choke attempt. Edmonson did a great job of shaking Brumfield off and escaping danger but ended up being mounted by Brumfield who looked to do damage but the round expired once again. Another close round but I gave the round to Brumfield.
In the third round a right by Edmonson landed and he moved in getting a takedown. Edmonson dropped hammer fists on his opponent but the tough Brumfield was able to get back to his feet. Edmonson landed a nice right hand and shortly after landed a nice body shot to Brumfield. The round ended with Edmonson attempting a rear naked choke . Edmonson had the edge in the third round, as the decision went to the judges, who awarded the fight to Edmonson by unanimous decision (29-28,29-28,29-28). An outstanding win for Edmonson over the experienced Brumfield, Brumfield reported that he went into the fight with a hand injury, but not to take away from the accomplishments of Edmonson. He took on a tough opponent and was aggreesive and never backed down!
The main event was a highly anticipated matchup between two undefeated fighters as Team 110's Bryan Ortiz (4-0) faced Azamat Shogenov. This match started fast with both fighters trying to land punches but it was a big kick from Shogenov that landed right to the face of Ortiz. Ortiz, obviously stunned by the kick backed away, but Shogenov rushed in an inadvertently landed another kick to the face of the downed Ortiz. UFC veteran referee Rob Madrigal quickly intervened to check on Ortiz. The doctor took a look at what could possibly be a broken nose and put a stop to the contest early in the first round. These are two outstanding young fighters that everyone should keep their eye on. This could be a great potential rematch if Brian Angelo and Nilo Soto see their way to match up these two fighters one more time!
Submission of the night goes to Ruben Marques for his beautifully transitioned armbar on Eric Jachimiec
Special mention for fight of the night was between Trevor Adeszko and Rafael Reyes. A close battle back and forth for the first two rounds. Adezko landed a beautiful knee to the face of Reyes, dropping him to the canvas. Adeszko looked to inflict further damage but the referee stepped in stopping the bout at 2:09 into the third round.
I personally would like to thank everyone who donated items to the raffle, who fought on the card, all the fans that attended the card and to the everyone who was generous with their donations. Jeff definitely appreciates the support but we have a long way to go to raise money for him to receive the medical care he deserves. Team No Comment owner Josh Bulak should be commended for all his efforts and hours that he puts in to try and raise money for Jeff. Keep up the good work Josh!
