Bellator 75 Results

Bellator LogoThe opening round of the heavyweight tournament took place and concluded with some controversy. The main event featured a rematch between Eric Prindle and Thiago Santos. Their first fight was back in November of 2011. That fight ended with Santos soccer kicking Prindle in the groin. The result was a no contest and this fight tonight was suppose to settle that score. Unfortunately once again, the fight ended with no decisive conclusion. Santos controlled the fight early with a take down and worked for submissions. Prindle did well to escape the submissions and worked his way back to his feet. While Santos was on his back, Prindle attempted an axe kick. The kick landed squarely on the groin of Santos, who layed motionless for over 10 minutes. Referee Gary Copeland ruled that the kick was intentional and disqualified Prindle. Santos advances in the tournament.

Brett Rogers failed to take advantage of his opportunity over Alexander Volkov. Rogers seemed complacent in this fight, hardly delivering any offense at all. Rogers avoided contact for the majority of the night, forcing Volkov to chase him for 3 rounds. Volkov peppered Rogers with combinations when he could catch him, but couldn't put him away. I wonder what will be next for Rogers, but I do know that Volkov will be a tough challenge in the tournament.

The first two tournament bouts went rather quickly with Vinicius Queiroz submitting Mark Holata in the first round. Queiroz was sent to the canvas early with a left by Holata and appeared to be on the verge of having the fight stopped. Holata began to work his ground and pound with hammer fists but Queiroz survived and looked for a triangle. Holata adjusted to avoid the triangle but found himself caught in an armbar. Queiroz rolled to his stomach, and the pressure of the hold appeared to have injured the arm of Holata.

Richard Hale seemed to have the most impressive striking performance. Hale stunned Wessel early with punches and then proceeded to drop bombs while having Wessel's back. Hale only needed a little over a minute to advance to the next round of the tournament.

In the preliminary action, Gilbert Grappling's Chase Beebe, was victorious with an unanimous decision over Cliff Wright. Beebe receives his second Bellator win, only losing a split decision to Marcus Galvao back in September.

Torres Martial Arts fighter, Anthony Gomez, started off the action with a first round victory over Jose Medina in the first round. Gomez improves to 6-2 as a professional.

Jason Graves evened his record to 3-3 with a win over Rafal Skibinski. Skibinski and Graves fought once before for XFO. Skibinski defeated Graves in their first encounter via TKO. Rumors have been heard that this will set up a third fight.

Bourbonnais, IL fighter Bobby Reardanz, was defeated by Iowa's Cliff Wright Jr. Reardanz succumbed to a rear naked choke in the first round.
